Yes, yes, I expect some flack, and as much as I have cringed at some of his antics, here is my take on Freddie (seeing as he is up for eviction on a one-to-one). I couldn't put my finger on why I have always warmed to him despite his ups and downs, but here it is:
Rather than being just some kind of 'idiot' that some people seem to see, for me he comes across as more of a 'little boy lost'. He really has been a HM who has morphed into different aspects of his character depending on the circumstances. This to me suggests a spontaneous, genuine sort of person who doesn't give a sh*t about the game itself. He has worn his heart on his sleeve. He has idiosyncrasies, and difficulty expressing himself which to some (many?) make him look like a bit of a pr*ck. He genuinely thinks he is trying to help in certain situations, even if he sometimes looks meddling or even like a fool. He was drawn in by Bea because he is easily led. He did get cocky, but as a reaction to having been downtrodden for 5 weeks. He sometimes does think he is cleverer than he is and gets above his station (his posh accent makes this look even more 'snooty' than it may be). He is up for having a laugh in the house and being a 'rebel', but he can also come across as a really chilled guy. So, many sides to his character, but ultimately a kind soul and a little boy lost in there. Has probably had a sheltered life and, as much as he is rich and posh, is actually quite vulnerable in that respect. His latest reactions support this. He is 23, immature and probably learning quite alot about himself. I think he's been on the biggest journey out of the lot of them. |
