Loaded telly meerkat Aleksandr Orlov will rake in even more cash with his own bid for Christmas No1.

The owner of the spoof comparethemeerkat.com web- site has been wooed by record bosses keen to cash in.

Aleksandr, famous for his catch- phrase “Simples” on the Compare The Market adverts, will rope in pal Sergei on backing vocals.

IT expert Sergei, who also appears in the adverts for the price comparison site, will play a balalaika, the traditional Russian stringed instrument.

A music industry source said: “Aleksandr has a fanbase to rival any of today’s pop divas so it
seems an obvious move to have a crack at recording a song.

“It’ll be an upbeat, modern ditty, but of course with a lot of Russian influence.

“Expect plenty of gags and the ‘simples’ catchphrase to feature heavily. It’s the kind of thing you can see sweeping the net too.”

The voice of Aleksandr, actor Simon Greenall, 51, is said to be sold on the idea and is currently busy collaborating on lyrics.

Aleksandr has more than 500,000 friends on Facebook and traffic to comparethemarket.com has rocketed by 80% since the ads were launched in January.
