Default Press selection - Day 4

CRYING SHAME
Jodie weeps at Barrymore's offensive rant
By Cameron Robertson

9 January 2006

HEARTLESS Michael Barrymore made Jodie Marsh cry yesterday after telling her she was a bully and only interested in talking about herself.

The row came after Barrymore, 53, and housemate George Galloway, 51, sang golden oldies which Jodie, 27, didn't know.

Barrymore asked her: "Have you ever listened to yourself on tape?" and added: "Are you happy with yourself?"

Then he hit out: "If you're not talking about your life, you shut down."

Shocked Jodie hit back: "It's just that when you lot sing all of the old songs I don't know any of them so I can't join in."

She said his attack was "offensive" and argued: "I talk about a lots of things".

But Barrymore accused her of acting "like a bully" and "sounding very angry".

She replied: "I'm really offended. I don't bully at all. I genuinely get on with everyone I meet. It's just in this house there are some people who have been difficult."

E4 cut the sound during its live coverage as Jodie burst into tears towards the end of their fight. She explained she was low because it was the third anniversary of best friend Kim Banyard's murder. She said: "I'm like this because I know this date is coming up."

Kim's lover Jonathan Dore was jailed for life after strangling her in a custody battle over their 10-week-old son Jake.

A worried TV insider said: "Jodie could completely fall to pieces. This is an extremely hard time for her and Barrymore's not helping.

"It was an extremely traumatic moment when her best friend was murdered and today's anniversary will bring it all back. "

Bitchy Barrymore had told Jodie during their 2am row: "Unless you're talking about what you want in your life or what you hate, you're not really interested."

Glamour model Jodie stood her ground saying: "No, I think that's unfair and insulting."

Barrymore was still implying Jodie was empty-headed in the afternoon. He told Pete Burns, 46: "I couldn't say I don't like her. But I'm cringing. If she doesn't want to be perceived as the ***** of Babylon, she'd better start thinking."

Meanwhile fake Chantelle Houghton, 22, was nearly unmasked when Dennis Rodman, 48, spotted her swotting up the lyrics before singing her "hit" for the challenge.

And Preston, 23, said in the diary room: "I was really suspicious. Lots of things didn't add up. I thought you'd put her in here to pretend to be a celebrity. But I'm over that now."

The housemates were last night asked to vote on who is the least famous. If Chantelle survives, her true identity will be revealed.
