I've been a fan since i heard their first album Youth and young Manhood a few years back they mixed the Strokes and Creendence clearwater revival to great effect plus those beards and long hair made them along with Caleb's voice made them sound like a long lost 70's band. Every track perfect from " wasted Time" and "California waiting" still the second best album they've done.
The Second album aha Shake Heartbreak saw them add an 80's sound of The cure and The cars to their Mix of Boogie. For me, its still their Greatest album to date with "The Bucket","King of the Rodeo","Milk" and "Four kicks" some of the best songs they've written. it Garnered huge praise and a huge fanbase including RADIOHEAD,BOB DYLAN,PEARL JAM and U.2. The Guys had the world taking notice.
Third Album BECAUSE OF THE TIMES saw a more unCommercial sound and a new Look come to the band which for me i saw as a sellout but the songs and new sound won me over songs such as U.2-ish lead off single "ON Call" also great tracks as The Pixies Rip "Charmer" and Great tracks such as "Knocked up","FANS" and "My Party" instead of dividing their crowd it made them even bigger been their First number 1 album in the uk. I like the album myself but still it lacks the swagger and 70's feel of their first two albums for me.
Onto Their Fourth and most commercially succesful album to date with "Only By The Night",yes i know its made them what they wanted to be the biggest band around in the UK anyway but for me it lacks the Swagger and coolness of the last three Albums even though "SEX on Fire" and "CRawl" are the best things they've done it smacks of sell out and its their worse album with them sounding like a wanna be U.2 and "use somebody" is the worse case of Sell out on the Album a soppy ballad you can imagine Leon Lewis singing it soon enough or someone on the X factor
From a swaggering rock band to sell out company rockers
anyway write up what you feel of the Guys and their albums?
