Jack Tweed, the widower of Big Brother star Jade Goody, has been cleared of raping a teenager.

Tweed and his friend, Anthony Davis were accused of raping the young student at Tweed's east London home in the early hours of September 4 last year.

But the jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London acquitted the 22-year-old club promoter after he described sex with the then 19-year-old, who said she was ''frozen with fear'', as consensual.

Davis was also acquitted of rape.

There were cheers of celebration from friends and family of the defendants who packed into the public gallery of the court.

Tweed told of his relief outside the court and said he now wanted to rebuild his life.

He issued a statement through his solicitor, Philip Smith, which read: "I'm relieved that the jury have taken a matter of minutes to see through these scurrilous and completely groundless allegations.

"I now want to put the last eight months behind me and rebuild my life as a 22-year-old young man."

Tweed interrupted his solicitor to add: "I'd first like to thank my family and friends and everyone who stood by me."

Tweed and Davis were alleged to have attacked the teenager after meeting her at the Embassy club in Mayfair. Both men denied rape.

Tweed, who married 27-year-old Goody shortly before she lost her battle against cervical cancer in March 2009, accepted having sex with the woman but said he had no idea Davis was in the room at the time.

He told the jury of six men and six women the sex had been consensual.
