Britflick bad boy Danny Dyer has been hit by a fans’ backlash after just 24 people went to see his latest film in its opening weekend. ![]() Cockney wideboy Dyer, 32, stars as a Soho crook in the gangland mockumentary Pimp. The film picked up a measly £205 during its first weekend in cinemas throughout the UK. Just weeks after the murder of three prostitutes in Bradford, the grisly thriller showed scenes of brutal violence dished out to sex workers in London’s grotty East End. It was billed as a “sexy, exciting and action-packed look at the darker side of London’s glamorous and dangerous nightlife”. It is thought Football Factory actor Dyer’s agony aunt scandal in a lads’ mag may have turned fans against him. Earlier this month Dyer told a heartbroken reader in Heat he should “cut his ex’s face so no one will want her.” The column has often been slammed for its apparent women-hating. The End Violence Against Women coalition said afterwards: “It was stomach-churning. It’s no joke but a dreadful reality for many.” The tasteless tip was later blamed on a printing mistake – but Dyer was sacked. A movie insider said: “Pimp hasn’t pulled the crowds at all – some screenings have been to empty movie houses. “Danny will be very disappointed.” Twitter users have been taunting Dyer over the flop. One, johnophonic, said: “Opening week box office for Danny Dyer’s film was all of £205. Hahahaha. Still more than is acceptable though.” A reviewer wrote: “The film is so bad it should have been called ‘Limp’.” Daily Star Last edited by Mrluvaluva; 06-06-2010 at 06:55 PM. |
