Default World War Z [Brad Pitt confirmed to be starring]

Book by Max Brooks that, IMO, is one of the best novels I've ever read. The premise is that zombies brought human kind to the brink of extinction and then the humans fought back; despite that the book is actually more a political commentary than a zombie novel; it discusses how certain countries prepared better than others and what happened in the aftermath... I recommend it.

Anyway, Brad Pitt's film company Plan B Entertainment bought the rights to turn it into a film, and a script was leaked onto the internet with many people reckoning it could 1) redefine the zombie genre and 2) potentially win major awards. A significant chunk of the book is available as a free audiobook on iTunes if any of you are interested; I downloaded ten parts of it and have so far listened to three of them, it's not quite the same as reading the book but it's still pretty good.

The book is written from the point of view of a UN reporter, this guy was sent around the world to interview people to gather statistics for a UN report, and he took the leftover accounts of what people had said and turned it into a novel; so it's a collection of (fictional) accounts from "the Zombie War" and makes for an interesting read. There are a lot of tongue in cheek references to popular culture (mostly American) which is funny if you pick up on it. The film is apparently comparable to the Bourne Identity and Children of Men, and Brad Pitt himself is going to be starring as the UN reporter. The script's being rewritten but it should be going into production soon; just wondered if anyone else had read the book really! I think it's honestly going to be one of those films that leaves a lasting impression on you, the book is amazing and I have high hopes for the film too.
