Default Tibb's 2010 Film Awards - Nomination Process

This is the nomination process of the 2010 TiBB Film Awards. These awards are closer to the likes of Empire than the Oscars (ie we simply have “best film” or “best <genre>“ as opposed to all the technical aspects like sound and visuals).

There are 12 categories;
Best Film
Best Comedy
Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Best Action/Thriller
Best Horror
Best Drama
Best Animated Film
Best Foreign Language Film
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Worst Film

Only films that were given a WIDE UK RELEASE IN 2010 are eligible to be nominated. A lot of this year’s Oscar contenders were actually given 2010 release in the UK are therefore eligible (for example Up in the Air, Precious and The Blind Side). Some 2011 Oscar contenders like 127 Hours, The King’s Speech and True Grit will not officially be given a wide release in the UK until 2011, even though they can probably be illegally downloaded before that, so are therefore not eligible.

You can nominate no more than 5 films/people for each category.

We still have a few weeks left of 2010 (with some notable films such as Love and Other Drugs, The Way Back and TRON: Legacy yet to be released) therefore the deadline for your nominations will be just after new year - around about 5 Jan (will keep everyone updated).

Either post your nominations here or PM me if you wish to keep yours confidential. You can make your nominations now and edit it as much as you want before the deadline. Once the deadline has passed, the nominations that you have submitted are final and cannot be changed.

Once all votes are in, the 5 films with the most votes per category will make the final cut. If there is a tie for 5th place between two or more films, whichever has the highest rating on IMDb will make it through (pretty lame, I know, but it’s better than drawing them at random). However if there is a tie between actors/directors, there will be no other option but to perform a random draw.

The final nominations will be posted ASAP after the deadline, then voting will open again - this time for the winners!

EDIT - I should have made this clearer - You can only nominate a film to ONE GENRE. Although boundaries may be blurred between some film genres (eg Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Red or Kick-Ass), you must decide which dominates over the other and decide which genre to put it in (aka the Stephen Neale approach).

A film nominated twice by the same poster will simply be ignored and not counted towards the final tally.

(Here’s the confusing part) A film can only be nominated in one genre when the final scores are being counted. For example - a bunch of posters may have decided to nominate “Film X” as a comedy, and another bunch may have decided to name the same film as an action. Although “Film X” has got enough votes to be nominated in both genres, it will be deducted to just one. If 10 people name it a comedy and 11 people name it an action, it will be in the action category and disregarded from the comedy category.

Think carefully as to what genre you put a film in – look at other poster’s nominations if necessary or just ask me.
