Hello. A few things sparked the idea of this thread: Shaun's Pop Song of 2010 thread, a recent thread asking about Christina Milian and a rediscovered love for the Honeyz. The aim of this competition is to pick TiBB's favourite song by a pop group. Not all of these groups are manufactured per se; some of them write their own lyrics, others can play instruments, some are two hit wonders while others are pop staples. They were all picked because to me, and to those I consulted whilst compiling the list, they were considered as classic representations of pop music in that manufactured form. The range of songs involved in this competition range from 1990-2010, giving us a rather nice round figure of 440 songs to choose from. I discounted one hit wonders - some of them were '80s groups who had one hit in the 1990s, others were just one hit wonders. Criteria for selection of songs is that they must have charted in the top 10 in the United Kingdom. They must be a group (whether it be a duo, three piece or more.) I've included Double A sides as separate songs, which in one case I can think of, a song was re-released as a Double A side so appears on the list twice.

Obviously with a list of 440 songs it would be madness to have round 1 set out in the way that Shaun is running his, similarly it's quite difficult to plan out the rounds because I don't know how the points will pan out. In the interests of getting this finished sooner rather than later, round 1 will consist of 22 groups of 20 songs, with the top 12 songs (that is, the 12 songs with the most points) going through to the next round, leaving us with 264 songs, or at least that's the plan.

The groups will be randomised and I'll close the voting whenever I have enough votes to distinguish top 12s, basically. Hopefully round 1 will go quickly! In round 1, you simply eliminate 8 songs from each group, listing 12 songs that you wish to vote for. A vote = a point, so you do not need to rank them in order of preference. I'll post the first round of songs separately, and will post then in the form of Round 1.1 (Groups A-G), Round 1.2 (H-O) and Round 1.3 (P-V).
