FURIOUS Simon Cowell last night called in the police over “fix” smears against Britain’s Got Talent. A malicious internet campaign claims bosses have been “grooming” youngster Ronan Parke for the past two years in order to win this year’s show. The slur spread like wildfire across the web yesterday morning, prompting Cowell’s production company Syco to contact Scotland Yard. A BGT spokesperson said: “We will not tolerate unfounded claims such as this about the show.” The 12-year-old singer sailed through to Saturday night’s live final after his stunning performance of Bob Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love wowed the show’s judges and helped him to top the public vote. But the vile campaign, which was yesterday viewed by more than 140,000 people, suggested hot favourite Ronan had been signed up by Cowell’s company two years before his audition. A BGT source said: “It’s sickening. A 12-year-old boy hoping to fulfil his dreams is being viciously attacked by someone who won’t even reveal his name. Simon wants this liar found. There are lots of people in the industry who are very jealous of Simon’s success.” Meanwhile, Scottish singer Jai McDowall and comedy dancer Steven Hall last night went through to the final. Jai was voted through by the public, while Steven got the nod from the judges over singer Edward Reid. Cowell called it the week’s “weirdest” semi-final. |
