I was just reading this on the Unreality TV site. Quite insightful....
Big Brother housemate Caroline Wharram is something of an enigma… ![]() First and foremost, her hair is inexplicable, and I can only assume she spends hours per day back combing it or arranging for a bush to be delivered to the house through which she can dragged backwards. But of course, her hair is only one facet of her persona that is utterly confusing, and I’m – somewhat – still trying to decide if she is a master manipulator or a naïve ninny, but I have to say, I’m erring towards master manipulator right now… The reason being that despite the fact she’s actually got a brilliant sense of humour, and can be very funny and droll, which I really like about her, she also has a propensity for joining whichever gang is en vogue at any particular moment. For instance, yesterday, as part of the new shopping task, Arron was told that if he cut up all the cigarettes in the house, the group would score 20 points towards their goal of 100 points. So he did it… He was apologetic about it, especially when Lauren nearly cried and Luke A looked like he might kill himself, but later, he chose to talk to Caroline about Adam’s furious reaction to the ciggie cull… And she wholeheartedly supported Arron in what he’d done, saying “Arron, you absolutely did the right thing. You can’t put the needs of five people ahead of everyone in the house…” Fair comment I guess, however, she then managed to turn the conversation around into being a personal attack on Adam, who she says smells, is unhygienic and who she “simply can’t bear.” She later tried to “bait” Adam by sarcastically asking him if he wanted to form a group with her so that they can gang up on everyone else. Her intimation clearly being that she thinks that’s what Adam’s done, but he was having none of it and said, “She is taking her position and trying to crack me.” Later, while speaking to Arron, she moaned, “I want to do something funny. Why is everyone so serious? No one wants to play with me.” An example of her idea of “playing” came in last night’s highlights show when we saw Caroline saying that she thought hiding Deana’s epilator was “fun” and “a joke” and not intended to be anything else, such as a conscious decision to hide something that evidently is important to Deana. So is Caroline’s idea of playful fun any which is actually totally bitchiness hiding beneath a smiling façade, or does she really believe that none of her “fun” remarks or actions are in any way upsetting or harmful to anybody? To hark back to the Confusing Cuisine task, which Caroline managed to wangle her way out of by saying she didn’t feel well, but seemed perfectly ok to me, when Deana – who Caroline said in last night highlights show that she “genuinely likes” – did her gagging on ham thing, once other housemates began berating her for it, Caroline joined in, branding Deana’s reaction “stupid.” She’s always very careful not to publicly instigate nastiness, and only joins in when others have started it, but join in she always does… So, is she a master manipulator who orchestrates mean and/or bitchy conversations and situations, or is she a naïve ninny who’s merely dragged along in the groundswell of pack-like mean behaviour? Link I think she is quite the manipulator, but not quite clever enough to be totally deceiving. Thoughts? |
