Deana thinks that there is more to it than that, shes looking for friendship where there is none. Adam would drop her in a second, that's why he's so suspicious of her, he thinks she would do the same.

I agree with this, he didn't look at all sincere when reassuring her he was her friend. His face had no animation to it ..
