One of four men accused of using a 13-year-old girl as a sex slave told police he encouraged her to resist the other men's advances, a court heard.

Surin Uddin, 28, of Bethnal Green, east London, is accused of conspiracy to traffic and various sex offences.

The trial jury at Norwich Crown Court heard the girl was subjected to a string of attacks over four days.

She was taken from her home in London to a rented house in Ipswich, Suffolk, the court was told.

Uddin, Mohamed Sheikh, 31, of Hackney, east London, and Abdul Hammed, 46, of Wellington Street in Ipswich all deny two counts of rape.

Sheikh also denies causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Hamza Ali, 38, of Waltham Forest, east London, denies one count of rape and one of sexual assault.

'For their pleasure'

All four deny conspiracy to traffic within the UK for sexual exploitation between 1 July and 13 July last year.

They also all deny conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to engage a child in sexual activity and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug to the girl between the same dates.

A statement, given to police by father-of-two Uddin shortly after his arrest, was read to the court by Riel Karmy-Jones, prosecuting,

He said the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told him she had been forced to have sex.

Uddin said he told her not to do anything she did not want to do.

Opening the trial, Miss Karmy-Jones told jurors the men "set her up as a sex slave" and "used her for their pleasure".
