The first series of Big Brother in the Middle East has been taken off air after just one week.
MediaGuardian says the show has prompted protests over claims it violates Islamic standards.
At a rally in Bahrain protesters branded the reality television show 'Sin Brother'.
The Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC) says it had made changes to the show to comply with Arab traditions, including separate sleeping quarters for male and female contestants and a prayer room.
But a spokesman for the Saudi satellite network said it is reconsidering production of the show as it doesn't want to be the "the source of differences of opinion".
The show is being filmed in a villa. The 12 contestants include a salsa-dancing Jordanian jeweller, an actress from Bahrain, a musician from Iraq and a karate teacher from Kuwait.
Explaining the thinking behind Big Brother, MBC said: "This new kind of programming does not go any further than what's going on in the private or state channels.
"On the contrary it is more honest in showing the actual facts than series of soap operas. Every new thing takes time to be accepted and in some cases it is misunderstood."
