Hm, your comment has absolutely no substance to me "sweetheart".. please explain what you mean by the shades of grey I am missing out..
Are you sayin "chav" is not a prejudice word?
Is it not used, especially by the media, to tarnish a subculture of a poorer community, and does it not lead to generalisation and stereotypical views.
Isit because it is not used as a direct term for someone's colour, so it therefore doesn't matter.
As, if Jade is a chav, and as that is what she is, you can therefore call her a chav and it is acceptable, why is it not acceptable for Jackiey to call Shilpa "the indian girl" if she has trouble pronouncing her name, as that is what she is now isn't? Sweetheart [/quote]
Listen sweetheart, the last thing I want to do is get into some tedious discussion about semantics and what applies to what.
I'm saying that racism is a profoundly different debate than simple everyday discrimination. Discrimination can be found everywhere you look to an extent, so if you want to start highlighting it all, youre not going to have any time to do anything else. It is too big an issue to tackle in this day in age.
Racism however, is more clearly defined, and a suitable place to start the debate. It is also the significantly more severe aspect as it represents absolute intolerance. If you dont see this, then ill leave you to tackle the problem of ALL THE WORLDS discrimination problems on your own. Best of luck sweetheart.
