The operative word there is 'seem'.

Recognising it as a double standard and then just suggesting we leave it at that seems a tad silly to me and 'that's life' isn't an adequate answer. Fifty years ago a black man and a white woman together were considered by many to be wrong, and for those who argued that such an attitude was unfair, plenty of people claimed it was a wholly natural response to object to miscegenation. Different races were expected to stay with their own: that was life.
A hundred and fifty years ago it was considered quite wrong for women to wear trousers. Questions were asked in parliament about the Pit Head Lassies and their habit of working in trousers. It was considered unwomanly. that was just life. That was just how it was.
What is 'just the way it is' now, is no more immutable than it was back then.
