this evening I was just off to bed, picked up the empty glass from the floor and as a joke my housemate slammed the door on me. Unfortunately it was a hard impact on my hand which resulted in the glass shattering straight through my wrist

The impact was so intense, blood started pouring out my wrist and went al over the walls and house!
We rushed to A+E where they cleaned it up and had a look. There were 2 deep cuts on the wrist, one was 0,5cm from my artery. They told me that i could not have been any luckier... if that artery had been slashed, I could have lost my hand unless got rushed in for immediate surgery.
An xray identified a small bit of glass lodged under some tissue, so they were able to remove that. They were just about to start stitching it up (Ill need about 10) when I told them I wasn't happy with how my thumb was feeling. They did some responsiveness tests and went and got a guy who specializes in that sort of area, and they came to the conclusion that my superficial nerve (thats its name) has been severely damaged when the glass cut me. They then decided to not stitch me up. They have arranged for a nerve surgeon to travel down from Birmingham tomorrow to take a look, as nerve surgery is a complex procedure. Hopefully the nerve isnt damaged too bad, but it;s going to need some tests and poking around to find out.
it was my right wrist too... so doing stuff like typing takes forever 1 handed
the plan now is to keep taking pain killers (im in a fair bit of pain) and see what the surgeon decides! wish me luck!
