Welcome to the ninth edition of the Most Loved countdown, my seventh appearance as your host and the most on my death bed I’ve been whenever I’ve posted the countdown. As you’re all aware, I introduced a new and improved system of nominating in Round 1 to make the competition fairer and a more accurate representation of what the members of our forum have to say about each other. If it were realistic, I’d have loved to have included every single person who received a nomination – there were 107 of you in total – and many more users who I’m sure would have picked up nominations had more people taken part (though with a staggering 48 users nominating in Round 1, it was a successful turnout!) Round 1’s rules meant that users had to just receive enough nominations to qualify at the end of the week of voting – there was no benchmark to decide who was through, as has been the case up until now: it is no longer a race to be in the first 50, but rather an endurance test to see who would have enough nominations to qualify. The magic number ended up being 5. 45 users received 6 or more nominations; the remaining 5 places were to be filled by users with 5 nominations on a first come first served basis, that is to say, whoever had reached 5 nominations first would claim a spot in the countdown. With 7 users on 5 nominations and five places to fill, it was mizzy25 and Morrissey who just missed out by virtue of being the last two to reach 5 nominations.
So, with our top 50 decided, we moved on to Round 2. The much higher on average Round 1 scores were no longer being multiplied by 3, so I expected the overall scores to be much closer together, I anticipated many tied positions and the winning score to be much lower than what we had seen in the past. Ultimately, there was only one true tie in the countdown; two users had the exact same score in Round 1 and in Round 2. All other ties were resolved by giving the higher position to the member who had scored more points in Round 2. The list changed a great deal over the week of voting in Round 2; which you will see as I reveal the final list – 43 people voted in Round 2 which made it yet another successful showing of user participation and community spirit. All that is left to say is good luck to everyone in the countdown tonight, I hope you enjoy reading what users have to say about you, your friends and the forum members you don’t know so well – it took me twice as long as it normally does to compile this list because of my recent illness but I got there eventually! You may now post your arrivals to the thread; I’ll be posting #50 at 9pm...
