Three teenagers have been arrested after a 15-year-old girl was shot dead in East London this afternoon.
The girl, who has yet to be named by officers, was attacked in a house shortly before 4pm in Hackney Wick. The arrested men are all under 18, detectives believe, though they are yet to definitively identify them Officers and paramedics were called to the scene, where the girl was pronounced dead. The trio were taken into custody by the police, and are being questioned in an East London police station. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: 'Detectives from the Homicide & Major Crime Command are investigating. Enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident, and a post-mortem will be held in due course.' Officers believe they know the identity of the deceased and are informing family. The London Borough of Hackney has a reputation for being dangerous. According to Metropolitan Police figures from last month, Hackney has the second-highest crime rate in London. Over the past year, five killings and 70 cases of gun crime took place in the area, according to the force's crime figures. According to the Citizens Report website, 12 teenagers were killed in London last year, four of whom were also shot.
