Default Torvill and Dean are getting their skates back on for a new ITV show.

OLYMPIC skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are getting their skates back on for a new ITV show.

But the gold medallists won’t be teaching celebrities to skate the way they did in Dancing On Ice. This time they are going to be putting ordinary folk through their paces.

ITV bosses have signed the pair up to front a new factual series that will see them travel back to where it all started, their home city of Nottingham.

Following their legendary win at the 1984 Winter Olympics, Nottingham Council officials decided to name an estate in their honour.

The skaters were thrilled when Dean Close was unveiled and the street was just off Torvill Drive, which is in the Wollaton area of the city.

Now Torvill, 56, and Dean, 55, are heading back to see if they can make a difference to the lives of youngsters in the area.

They come face-to-face with people living on an estate who are having a tough life – and who are pinning their hopes on Torvill and Dean changing their fortunes.

An ITV insider revealed the duo hope their work ethic can help boost morale on the estate.

“Torvill and Dean are well aware that there is a section of society that is being left behind,” said the source.

“These young people think that they have got no future and are struggling. So they want to help them learn a new skill.

"Torvill and Dean want these kids to believe there is a purpose to their lives.”

Telly bosses are currently putting the finishing touches to plans for the show.

The series is initially going to be three episodes but producers have said it could be extended.

Ice Rink On The Estate is due to air next April.
