SHAMED Jade Goody lied in court over a horrific glassing attack involving a “geezer bird”, a jury ruled yesterday. Jurors chose not to believe the Big Brother bully’s version of events over a dance-floor attack on a mixed-race boyband singer. Hairdresser Zoe Sigorney, 28 – dubbed a “rough-looking geezer bird” by Jade in court – was cleared of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. In returning their verdict, the jury ruled that they did not believe what Jade had told them. She had claimed she saw blonde Sigorney smash a beer-bottle over 22-year-old Jerome Simeon and then attack him with the broken remains in Sky nightclub in Ware, Herts. Mum-of-two Jade, 25, earlier clashed with Sigorney’s barrister Bill Emlyn Jones, who suggested she was lying. He accused her of making up her claims to help the mixed-raced singer so she would not appear racist after her Celebrity Big Brother outbursts against Indian actress Shilpa Shetty, 31. Mr Simeon told the court he met Jade at the club on the night of the attack last February and was dancing with her at the time. The singer, who performs with a band in Germany, suffered a six-inch (15cm) wound to his neck and jaw that left “blood running down his neck like a warm shower”. Sigorney, of Peterborough, Cambs, said Simeon had been abusive to her but had started fighting with one of her friends. The jury failed to reach a decision on a second charge of wounding – meaning she may face a second trial. Of her evidence and the Big Brother row, prosecutor Ian Wade told the jury at St Albans Crown Court: “You may take the view that what happened to Jade subsequently has nothing to do with this case. “Or you may take the view: ‘Knowing what I know about Jade Goody, I will view her evidence in that light.’” Jade earlier clashed with Mr Jones over the truth of her account. The former dental nurse, of Chipping Ongar, Essex, said she had given a statement about the attack because it was the right thing to do. But Mr Jones put it to her: “You know the value of good publicity. “ Jade replied: “My evidence is not false. I did see something that was morally wrong. It was not at a time when I was accused of being a racist.” Jade told the jury: “I see this girl come flying from one side of the room with something in her hand. “This girl just hit him. He tried to run away. He fell to the floor and this girl continued to put it (the glass) down on him three or four times.” |
