Big day arrives for Derry’s Ashleigh Coyle


After almost three months confined in the Big Brother House tomorrow will finally tell the tale of whether not 18-year-old fomer Miss Derry Ashleigh Coyle can with the prestigious reality TV show title.

As the night progresses friends and family of the young woman confirmed they are to gather together at the Delacroix bar in Ashleigh’s native city to watch the live final unfold and hope ‘their girl’ can do it. The Derry Journal will be their to capture them in pictures on the night.

Events within the house itself took an unusual turn last night when Ashleigh’s female rival, Helen Wood offered a teary apology to the Derry girl. The pair have clashed throughput the series. Helen told Ashleigh: ““I owe you an apology,” Helen said as she embraced Ashleigh, “Regardless of all the bitchy comments, I didn’t mean to upset you ever, ever.”

Some commentators have suggested that the timing of the apology was cynical and flaoted just in time for the final but that suggestion was rebuffed by Helen Wood who also said: “I don’t care if people say shes just doing because they’re leaving, they’re not in this situation inside here.”

Ashleigh replied: “Thanks Helen, that means so much.”

Support in Derry for the beautiful teenager continues unabated: One facebooker posted: “Gotta support our girl and get as many people voting as possible!! She is a credit to you!! I cant wait for a catch up with her!! your nerves must be wrecked today!! #TeamAshleigh xox”

Big Brother: Ashleigh Coyle’s friends organise party for final night

Derry’s hot favourite to win the Big Brother title, Ashleigh Coyle, will have no shortage of home town support on Friday as she attempts to secure the reality TV show crown.

A post this evening on her Facebook page shows that her circle of friends and supporters will gather at the Delacroix Bar at 8.30pm on Friday on the city’s Buncrana Road to watch the live final and cheer the former Miss Derry on.

Ashleigh still remains the bookmakers favourite to lift the title with many on line betting sites still offering very short odds on the beautiful teenager to succeed in her ambition.

Good will in the city is strong for the local girl and her facebook page is awash with well wishers stating their support for Ashleigh.

One post said: “I haven’t said to much on here about Big Brother but I think Ashleigh Coyle has done so bloody brilliant. An 18 year old young lady who can stand up to a threatening “aggressive” character like Helen. Despite physical threats and constant divisive attitudes pointing towards her, our Derry girl has held her composure and has proven a winner already. We should all be behind her in these last few days. Team Ashleigh!”

Another supporter wrote: “Vote the beautiful Oakgrove girl to win this years big brother - well done Ashleigh Coyle xx”

Ashleigh’s facebook page is also crammed with people urging her fellow Derry people to vote for her on the final night.

With around 72 hours to go until the final night on Friday it appears that in Derry at least the young model has no lack of backing.
