I would think, given the choice, most of us would rather share living space with Dee rather than Gary. If we are really honest with ourselves.
If Gary wasn't the star of a number of popular violent films, which many people adore, the forum would be baying for him to be booted.

I do agree that I can see why they get annoyed living with Gary, if he is as unhygienic and dirty as they claim. But then Dee shouted at him the other day for touching a TRAY for fear of his germs contaminating the food. It seriously reminds me of primary school where the kids would claim someone "had germs" and all run away. It's bloody pathetic. Sometimes, like the example I just gave, I feel that the group have just sort of chosen to dislike him because he's "different", and they use hygiene as a reason.
I'm sure Dee would be fine to live with if she liked you and you did as she wanted you to. Otherwise, I think she'd be a nightmare to live with - aggressive, loud, vicious, bossy, constant bitching to influence other housemates against you. If I had to choose between that and Gary, I would pick Gary.
I've never watched a film with Gary in (didn't even know who he was) and he's one of my faves, simply because I find him to have a really mature and laidback outlook on life which I'd like to have. I also really admire how accepting he seems to be of other people and their differences, and doesn't seem interested in bitching about people at all. Lots of other forum members have expressed this too, so I don't think your "he's only liked because he's in cool films" theory really stacks up.
