I wouldn't use the word. And although I understand the argument about black people using it amongst other black people or Jewish people telling Jewish jokes etc. ... this is different. I'm Scottish and I tell Scottish jokes. My husband is Catholic and he tells catholic jokes. This is a fact of life.

However, on the TV, some things are not acceptable. For that matter, in everyday life things aren't acceptable. For example.. In a workplace, I might call my co-worker a bitch when I'm talking to her like if she got tickets for a gig I wanted to go to, I would be like.. "you lucky bitch". However I wouldn't dream of using that word to talk to a customer. It's about knowing when certain language is appropriate. Charley and Emily only met a week ago. She does not know her well enough to use that word, nor should she use it when she is on the TV. I don't buy this "we forget about the cameras" crap. No they don't. They just don't stop and think. Unfortunately for Emily, she didn't stop and think. She just said the word and now she's paying the price.
