i think the reality is that if he doesn't go, the tories will call a snapshot election with Boris in charge and go for a fresh new term and will win. Thats why this no confidence letter was created.

Corbyn had an opportunity to put himself at the center of the debates, make the arguments pro/against valid, brought the standard of the debate up. He didn't, he just hid in a corner. He is a completely irrelevant and ineffectual leader.
