The housemates are bright sparks...

Big Brother doesn't ask for much - he only wants the housemates to invent electricity. For the first part of their Time Machine Task, resident Einsteins: Carole, Gerry, Tracey and Ziggy have been taken back to 1847, and asked to create the first electrical circuit.

Given suitably Victorian costumes, the four changed and paraded round in their shirts, waistcoats and bonnets in a very rustic old room filled with hay, dancing to Victorian music.

"I'm very poor," Ziggy lamented. "Can you give me a haircut, Gerry?"

"I can give you a haircut, but I'm poor as well," Gerry informed him, resplendent in a top hat and tails.

"I think you're rich," Ziggy argued. "You've got a big coat and everything."

"I think I am rich actually!" Gerry laughed.

The housemates then sat down at a table covered with wires and crocodile clips, before being told they had 90 minutes to complete the circuit.

"If you complete this circuit, Big Brother will be flabbergasted, and will even let you take the credit for it," Big Bro informed them.

"Thank you very much!" the three chorused, before getting down to work.

But the dull technical stuff didn't dampen their spirits, and the Victorian quartet managed to chat as they crocodile clipped.

"You are the light at the end of my tunnel," Ziggy joked to Tracey. "I wake every morning to be next to you."

"Thank you, kind Sir," Tracey demurred, as the pair grappled with wires.

Will the housemates light up or cause a big bang?
