He seems uneducated and of limited abilities. I think this is why he grins inanely, laughs loudly at un-funny incidents all the time and makes so much unwarranted noise. Almost a William Golding character. I always feel sorry for him because I don't think he is socially aware and always seems shocked if someone pulls him up about his behaviour. He apologises quickly when anyone points out that his attitude is less than appropriate. He is particularly inept with women which suggests he might be single and inexperienced. It seems possible to love and hate him at the same time and to feel bad when you hate him. All in all, quite a complex man.
