It's playable without, if I get in a lobby with nobody with a mic it's just not as co-op.

For instance today I found the fuse to fix the phones, Jason showed up so I dropped it on the floor for anyone to use while he chased me. If the others had have had a mic i could hace told them while I was hiding half way up the map. As it stood I had to walk back and do all the work.

It's good for fixing cars too, ive picked people up because theyve asked or screamed at them to get in and vica versa lol

Also if you don't come across a map and the cops come you could try leaving the wrong way
