She knew she has/had cats as part of her "living alone" story. This information might have slipped away. She didn't do a doctorate on Ann's life and it wasn't even the main subject of her question.
Not sure why people make such a big deal of it - she said it, proved wrong, sort of apologized - moving on. Ann didn't look too bothered any way, she's a tough lady...
