Default Captivation vs Nauseation

A statement

Last year I saw a very ordinary couple fall in love over eight weeks.

It was sweet, poignant and heart warming. I, along with many other people, was totally captivated and charmed.

This week I have seen a gym teacher in a longterm relationship proposition a woman he has known for a few days. Despite professing to bisexuality and a slight moral dilemma about the girlfriend she is obviously 'up for it'.

I was sincerely hoping this wouldn't happen.

I saw everyone else snuggling up and stroking each other, and resigned myself to the animalistic tactile nature of some of these housemates.

However, this morning I turn on the TV to see that Spencer and Kate are wrapped around each other in bed. I know no more and don't want to.

Last year we had, on day 57

'Be honest, do you two canoodle in the den?'

This year, we have Alison trying to wake Kate on day10 so that she doesn't miss her shower. Spencer feigning continued sleep is wrapped around her like an octopus.

'I don't care, if I do miss the shower, I'm staying here and going back to sleep'.

How proud her parents must be.

I am obviously an old prude and have no place here. No wonder the ratings are up. Soft (for the moment) porn on national TV.
Dumbed down for a nation of lacivious voyeurs in a desperate effort to rival the world cup.

You can keep it.

Thanks Kate and Spencer, I was ill for a while, and now I think I'm cured.

Let me know if it improves.

Default Hmmmmmmm.

I think you have a point, especially with Adele and Lee - it was far too quick, within something like 5 days? (or possibly less than that.)

With Spencer and Kate i find it more interesting, and I think they actually make an interesting couple. They haven't said they fancy each other as such yet, but they do like each other. And this new Sophie may indeed shake it up a bit.

Having said that, they will never match P&H for me, because P&H was something lovely that developed over 8 weeks, something that restored the faith I lost in the summer about romance (overly dramamtic, maybe, but I had a bad summer!)
Every bit of interaction between them i believed, whereas with Adele and Lee I find it all an act (though I may be wrong.)
I think though, having said that, after we've all seen what I believe (and i know i'm not alone) was the 'real thing' with H&P, anything else will probably be suspicious, fairly or unfairly, as they'll be accused of copying H&P for votes (something which I am as guilty of as the next person!)

I'll still defend Spencer and Kate (slightly) though, as I do like them, but nothing in this series has come close to captivating me asmuch as H&P did last year.
I don't really know whether i'd want it to either, because H&P were one in a million really, it's unlikely to happen again.

I don't warm to any of the contestants and I havn't got last year to compare with as I never saw it....

Confession time over.

Last year was a classic piece of fly on the wall television. With a genuine love story unfolding before our eyes. as such it was unique television and I have never believed that BB3 could in any way emulate the Helen and Paul story.

For BB3 you need to wipe your mind and try and give yourself a clean slate and an open mind otherwise there will be no chance of enjoying it.

Ok. I too can't relate to them in the sense that I wouldn't care if any of them were to win. Never the less it is still an interesting piece of reality TV that for the moment at any rate is entertaining me. But for different reasons than last years.

I loved last years BB - you lot know I do, I was still watching it and posting about it 2 weeks a go - I still am!!! I dont think any series will top it, the Paul and Helen romance was amazing to watch, I was hooked by it.

However, I am not just a fan of BB2, I am a fan of Big Brother!!! Any series gets me hooked cos each one is different.
They are very different from last year and I know it must be hard to a new set of housemates when we all loved last years but why not enjoy it.
I have noticed a lot of negative comments on the board lately about the housemates, some personal but we didnt like it when ppl slagged off Paul last year!!
SO GIVE THEM A CHANCE!! They are there for ur pleasure, to entertain us!!!

You do have a point wildchild, but I'm afraid I just can't relate to any of them - they do nothing for me at all, and I am trying, honest!

OK, OK, I'm a sad old f**t, you are right and I am wrong. I am living in the past and need to get a grip.

I'm working on it. In the meantime I'll just make myself a nice cup of Horlicks, fill me hot water bottle in case it gets chilly later, and settle down with my nice book of inspirational poetry by Helen Steiner Rice. Lovely!

I understand what you're getting at ROB. In BB2 it was they 'will they, won't they' aspect of it all - admit to fancying each other, not getting down to any naughties!!

It was the slowly unfolding love between them that kept us entralled. It was so lovely to watch. Both Helen and Paul alternating between whispering sweet nothings, holding hands under cover of darknes (how sweet is that!) and play fighting, to pretending to the other housemates that 'she isn't my type' and 'if he came on to me I'd be physically sick' . It was just so sweet to watch that despite everything, they fell for each other. That in spite of the possibility of getting a slapping from Big G, Paul still admitted his feelings for Helen. Despite Elizabeth doing her best to plant seeds of doubt in Helen's mind, she still decided she wanted to see Paul (and her little face when he was waiting at the gate for her).

All of this bears absolutely no comparison to the 'wham, bang, thank you ma'am' type of offering we are being subjected to from the BB3 housemates - Adele and Lee, and Spencer and Kate. It all seems to be happening because it's what they think will earn them a few brownie points and create some good television.

I can't envisage any 'lights flashing past' for any of the four participants - it doesn't seem real. Kate is working her way through the male population of the house, Spencer just wants a bit of 'street cred' by getting off with the (supposed) prettiest girl in the house. Lee and Adele need to get their heads sorted out - it all seems too staged and false.

Sorry for the rant - feel better now. Wake up at the back!!

What strikes me about this lot so far is their all trying to do everything that happened in the whole 9 weeks of bb2 in 2 week's before they get voted out.

This is just false, they couldnt wait to start asking about who fancyed who which came much later in bb2.

It's simple. There must have been a question on the application form this year..

"Are you a total slag?"

If you answered yes, you got in.

Steve o I couldnt agree with you more, this is what seems to be happening, most of them had watched last years and realised that if they have some sort of romance going albiet false they will be kept in. I dont think so Although I have been glued to it, just incase something
happens ie Jonny hits alex, alison creates a tidal wave, Kate actually is herself.

Very funny Monie!! Me too. In fact, gentle as I hope my soul normally is, this shower do bring out the worst in me.

I am really hoping to see something cataclysmic going on here. I agree with Peachy, keep Alex in. He is driving them mad, and he is actually funny, as when he said,

'I'm even starting to piss myself off!'

The veneer is slipping with a lot of them.

The backbiting is going on apace. All the blokes (except apparently the extremely creepy and smug Spencer) have sussed out Kate, after sniffing round behind her like a pack of dogs around a bitch in season. Gruesome!

Something is definitely brewing, and this year it's not a nice cup of tea!

By the way, I am probably well out on all of this, because I can only bear to watch the nightly Channel 4 offering. My mind is probably being manipulated..................

I totally agree with ROB

Last year I coudn't wait to get to the TV to see H+P and it was so much more real!!! This year it feels like they are trying too hard to get a romance going when there's no obvious chemistry between them like there was P+H.
Kate and Spencer do not ring true at all!!!! If anything I hope that the new Sophie will stir things up with Spencer just to show Kate for what she really is

I am never usually so evil about people but so many people seem to love Kate and I just don't understand why, she so obviously loves herself and want to win not bothered about if she hurts anyones feelings'

Keep Alex in as ROB says it will be more interesting and he will annoy them more every day!! He keeps me amused even though he is very wet
