All 57 members of a police tactical unit have resigned from the team in protest at the suspension of two colleagues who were filmed shoving a 75-year-old man to the ground.

From sky news there

this sort of thing is the big eye opener for me. I get that a lot of the police in the USA are not well trained, so when events occur, they are just not prepared to deal with them correctly and that is certainly a contributory factor in all of this, but the police seem to have been specifically picked for the force because they have undesirable attributes one of which is that they are racist.

I listened to a BLM leader talking earlier in the week and he suggested that the police force should be disbanded because it had been shown they were causing more harm than good. My reaction was you have got to be joking, what could be more ludicrous, but the more I see and hear, the more I think something very fundamental has to change within the police force, it's not just a tweak here and a tweak there

Sadly they only resigned from the "riot" side of things. They are still normal police officers. Great, 57 more officers conducting traffic stops and killing unnamed people!

How can they resign from one part of their job....might try that on Monday see how it goes down, the system they have in place seems ridiculous

Maybe working riot shifts is a voluntary thing? I don't mean voluntary as in unpaid, obviously maybe it's "extra" and they can choose between normal copping and also sorting out the riots?

I’d guess that there’d be some that choose to cover the riots but I’d imagine that most would rather not

Apparently all of the police on the streets were assigned that role specifically with different levels of pay compared to other active duties or admin duties.

True! It's ridiculous. Many people reported that thousands of people went to the scene in Buffalo, put up signs and wrote the elderly mans name in chalk where he fell with "get well soon". And the people said that they saw 1 or 2 police officers standing way back.

Perhaps they didn't want to face the city that had been internationally shown as having a massive problem! I am guessing they were told by the "higher ups" to stay away from protesters.

And thank you Cherie! I hope you are well!

So they resigned from from the riot duties ( the real dangerous stuff) .. surely that won’t sit well with their colleagues.
Imagine soldiers doing the training and travelling but avoiding the actual fighting

They should totally commit to being hideous human beings and resign from the force all together.
