It's really always been an illusion, that "hard work will get you rich". While I do believe that hard work and avoiding running into BAD luck is likely to get people to a place of being at least comfortable... there's just no path to actual wealth that doesn't involve dumb luck or nepotism. It's basically people in the 20th century operating on a 17th century philosophy that was sprinkled into the roots of the nation. I think they'll always believe it. Their entire culture was grown out of that idea.

There have been enough blue states on the board to hit 270 by the publicly-available count since MI turned... Biden only needs Nevada and Wisconsin to hold and Michigan not to flip back... so by the votes if all counting halted immediately Biden has won.

If anything there's less chance that there'll be shenanigans this time around - Trump isn't up against the prospective "First ever female President", Biden is too boring for anyone to care about swindling to the top, and (handling of the covid aside) Trump hasn't been as awful as he could have been. If (when?) Trump loses, it won't necessarily be down to meddling.

Although, with the state Biden's in Kamala Harris probably will be President by 2020!
