I watched it for the first 4 or so years and then became a little bit too self aware for me.

Having said that, I think the cast is almost completely different now to the last time I watched it.

Tom who left last series has shared the details on this anf has said his mum has always done it and they do eat the cakes and stuff but not always on screen
