I ask Marr for proof that the hospitals are full of unvaccinated. Right now we only have word that they are and I could show you the word of someone that they're not.

What was his personal study and research to find this statistic out? If he's spreading this information then he must have that.

Again, you're only going by word of mouth. Would you like me to show you word of mouth saying the opposite, including from nurses?

What makes Marr right but this wrong?

Is it simply because Marr works for the BBC, who would never be dishonest?

It means faster rate of transmission and generally it’s usually virus variant with shorter incubation that become the dominant strain. IF reports that Omicron has milder symptoms are true then it’s not necessarily a bad thing that it has short incubation, because it means that if it becomes fully dominant then for a “more severe” (in terms of symptoms) strain to then take centre stage, it has to be both more severe AND have a shorter incubation period than Omicron. If a “nasty strain” emerges but it still has longer incubation then it’s highly unlikely to become the dominant strain in the community.

The milder symptoms thing is the big “if” here of course but, basically, the situation is still as it has been for weeks: “more information needed”.

Default Coronavirus Outbreak

Yeah I think the hospitalisations vs ICU distinction is important - there are all sorts of reasons an ill person might need hospital assistance but it be nowhere near the level of severe Covid. e.g. I have a friend who is type 1 diabetic and has needed hospital stays three times for illness over the years (twice with flu, once with norovirus) but it wasn’t because the illness itself was particularly severe - but because he couldn’t effectively manage his blood sugars while ill and they were fluctuating dangerously (so he needed to be on a drip etc. and blood sugars constantly monitored).

Incidentally, he had Covid recently and barely had symptoms at all (mild cold like symptoms for 2 days then totally fine). He is double jabbed though.

But yeah, Plenty of Covid hospital cases will be like that (hydration management, fever management)… not necessarily severe respiratory illness. Those are the ones who will end up in ICU… and the people who end up at that level are mostly unvaccinated people (also age still plays a part, they’re mostly over 55).

i'm not a supporter of mandatory medical procedures of any nature. and i'm certainly not in favour of restrictions against a virus variant that hasnt caused a serious illness or death anywhere in the world. To me, that is utterly crazy

If we opened up and removed restrictions for the life threatening delta variant, why on earth would we have restrictions for a variant that hasn't harmed anyone. It's insane

The South African expert in Marr said so far it is spreading fast but is appearing in the younger age group and is mild...

Hospital capacity is a huge factor. The stuff I mentioned above (hydration issues, fever management) are not an issue if you’re in a hospital ward, they can very effectively control those things, you probably wouldn’t even feel that I’ll on your drip and then you’d be home in a few days.

….the same issues without access to a hospital bed can kill you.

Hmmm that’s less meaningful to be honest. If it’s in the younger age groups then it will always (in 99.9% of cases) be mild.

Pretty sure he said it was fast becoming the dominant strain so surely it will be infecting all age groups

He also said most vaccinologists agree the vaccines will give some protection against it

Just a sore arm so far . Seems to be a bit of a Russian roulette, a few people I work with have had it and have ranged from out of commission for 3 days, to not even having a stiff arm.

I was rough for 2-3 days with both of my AZ doses.
