There’s a sense of inevitability about Alexandra Popp.

The Euro 2022 semi-final between Germany and France, which you can follow here, was a tight and tentative affair until the 40th minute.

Svenja Huth’s delicate cross found the on-rushing Popp inside the French box and bang, the German captain’s first-time volley burst into the back of the net to break the deadlock.

It was some goal to score in a game of huge magnitude and in doing so, Popp has equalled and broke records all at the same time.
