The writing did dangle sympathy in front of the audience for that last scene though. I found myself feeling a bit sad for him tbh. Considering his sh!t upbringing, no love, useless parents, nothingness. And when he said about how Becky wanted to leave him, and that's when he went off the rails. Scared to lose the only love he ever really received from anyone, how Becky made him feel "normal".
Overall the right thing happened. And the showdown between Catherine and Tommy at the end was very well acted and executed. Absolutely smashing show.
