Well I think it was essentially known that he had sadly died quite a while ago. It's good for his loved ones that his body has been recovered. Of course always hard to lose people but not 100% knowing what happened to them/not being able to hold a proper funeral even past the point of there being any hope of them being alive must make it even harder.
