Default NL: Dutch PM Schoof condemns antisemitic attacks in amsterdam

Prime Minister Dick Schoof said he was “horrified” by violent clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Israeli football supporters in Amsterdam on Thursday. He spoke of “anti-Semitic attacks on Israeli citizens” and called it “completely unacceptable,” in a post on X. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke of “very violent” attacks on Israeli citizens.

“I have just spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu by phone to stress that the perpetrators will be identified and prosecuted. The situation in Amsterdam is now calm once more,” Schoof said.

Netanyahu called clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters in Amsterdam a “very violent incident” against Israeli citizens, Reuters reported. He said that the Israeli army was sending two planes with medical teams on board to Amsterdam to “help citizens,” though Schiphol Airport told NOS that no such flights had been arranged.

The riot police had to intervene in several clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Israeli football supporters who came to Amsterdam for the champions league match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The police arrested 57 people. A spokesperson couldn’t tell NU.nl on Friday morning how many people got hurt.

AT5 reported that the riot police deployed multiple units and dogs on Dam Square to keep football supporters and protesters apart, but there were still several violent confrontations.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that ten Israelis got hurt and that the national security council urged Israelis to stay in their hotel rooms and not wear clothing that revealed them as Jewish or Israeli.

The run-up to the football match in the Johan Cruijff Arena was already grim. Several hundred pro-Palestine demonstrators had gathered near the stadium to protest against the presence of the Israeli club and fans. The police intervened when the demonstrators tried to get closer to the stadium and made several arrests.

seems police were already on high alert, due to maccabi fans causing trouble before the match

these pro-palestinian thugs had nothing to do with the outcome of the football match, the israeli fans were peacefully heading home when they were hunted down and beaten

The police sat back as the thugs hunted down small groups of people who were obviously Jewish

A sickened woman writes:

I’m so disgusted by what I just witnessed. In Amsterdam, Israelis & Jews
leaving a soccer match were beaten unconscious by mobs, thrown in the river,
and forced to say “free Palestine.” This is the direct result of normalizing
antisemitism post Oct. 7, where the most flagrant acts of Jew-hatred were cast
aside as just “bleeding hearts who are against the war.”

Remind me again how these are all just kind people who care about humanity.

If you can’t bring yourself to speak up now—after failing the Jewish community
for the past year with silence and/or by insisting that “globalize the intifada”
was anything other than a dogwhistle to harass Jews around the world—you
have no right to call yourself a humanitarian.

Quote:
“Boys on scooters” were behind multiple attacks on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in Amsterdam on Thursday evening, Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said in a press conference on the events on Friday. She spoke of a “pitch-black” night that has “deeply damaged” the city’s Jewish life and culture. The police are aware of reports that Israelis were abducted in the Dutch capital but have no concrete indications that this actually happened.

Supporters of the Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv were attacked in several places in Amsterdam on Thursday after a match against Ajax. Five people had to go to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the attacks. All five had been discharged by Friday morning, the police said at the press conference. The police are aware of “20 to 30” other Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters who sustained minor injuries.

The police do not have any concrete information confirming rumors that Israelis were kidnapped in Amsterdam. Police chief Peter Holla asked that concerned family members contact them immediately to file an official report about anyone known to be missing. Holla, who took over as chief of police in Amsterdam in early September, said that the police could not give figures on how many people may or may not be missing.

“Amsterdam is reflecting on a ‘pitch-black’ night, and it is still dark today,” Halsema told dozens of journalists gathered at City Hall. The attacks on Jewish football fans were a form of a hit-and-run perpetrated by “boys on scooters” who then raced across the city “fleeing from the police,” she continued.

“That this is happening in Amsterdam is unbearable and cannot be stomached,” she said. “Our city has been deeply damaged, our Jewish life and culture are under attack.”

The mayor said that the Amsterdam authorities asked the National Coordinator for Counter-terrorism and Security (NCTV) for a security risk assessment on the Ajax vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv match and the Kristallnacht commemoration happening on the same night. The NCTV saw no concrete threat, the mayor said. Early police investigation shows that the riots were quickly organized on Telegram, Halsema said.

Public prosecutor René de Beukelaer said that the authorities would release photos of the perpetrators in order to quickly identify and apprehend them. The police arrested 62 people during the riots. Ten of them, eight adults and two minors, were still in custody on Friday. They are suspected of public violence against people or groups. The people who have been released are suspected of insults and throwing fireworks.

The authorities are taking extra measures to ensure everyone’s safety. Both Amsterdam and Amstelveen are declared security risk areas, because there may still be Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in the cities. The declaration gives the police more power to take preventative action, like stopping and searching people.

“What has happened is a scandal for Amsterdam,” mayor Halsema said. “I want to make it clear. We are used, in Amsterdam, that there can be tensions. There are many demonstrations and protests, and we are always prepared for them. … But what happened last night is not a protest. It has nothing to do with a protest or demonstration. It is a crime. There is no excuse for what happened last night”

Halsema declined to comment on Israel’s response to the violence, instead focusing on what the Dutch Cabinet said. Prime Minister Dick Schoof condemned the “anti-Semitic attacks on Israeli citizens.” Justice Minister David van Weel said that the perpetrators would be identified and punished. “We should be ashamed of ourselves,” he said on Friday.

Asked whether she would step down as mayor of Amsterdam if tens of thousands of Jewish people didn’t feel safe in the city, Halsema only said that she has the mandate of the city council to run a large, international city.

I love the advice, stay in your room and don't wear anything that identifies you as Jewish. Not the first time that's been seen as good advice in Amsterdam.

Israeli Ambassador to the UK @TzipiHotovely
condemns the antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam, where hundreds of Israeli
football fans were beaten in the streets overnight.

“Shocked and deeply concerned by the violent anti-Semitic assaults on Israeli
fans in central Amsterdam last night, where hundreds of Israelis were
ambushed and violently attacked.

This heinous act is a painful reminder of the rising anti-Semitism in Europe. It
highlights the urgent need for stronger action to protect Jewish communities
and ensure that no one faces violence because of their identity.”

to be fair, Maccabi fans are hardly angels themselves either, i mean here some evidence, they were beating up arab fans

and before the game vs Ajax, they brought heavy fireworks with them and caused some unrest, where the police had to keep the peace

but in all fairness, their incidents were football hooligan incidents at least

these antisemitic assaults by the pro-palestinian far left thugs had nothing to do with the football anymore, just vile nasty senseless xenophobic discrimination, which truly is sickening

Default Jew hunt

We failed Jews during football fan attacks like we did in WWII, says Dutch king

Police said five people were taken to hospital and 62 arrests were made after a
pro-Palestinian far-left organised mob began attacking Israeli football fans around midnight.

More evidence, if it were needed, that the world is upside down. The Haifa fans marched shouting death to Arabs and let the idf rape them, then attacked any buildings displaying a Palestinian flag, before attacking an Arab taxi driver in his cab. The locals stood up to them, and now the whole world supports football hooliganism.

The sickness of ignoring truth and facts in favour of racism, is fcucking dark.

15k Jews living in Amsterdam, none of which have been hunted down. Jews were still involved in some of the filming and none were attacked, only the hooligan fans

This wasn't anti Semitism, Nicky. It was football hooliganism, which was fought back against by the locals. Happens in European cities a few times per year, but this is the only time that defending the hooligans has ever happened.

The story should be that they got their arses kicked so badly, that the IDF had to send military planes to pick them up, which is fcuking hilarious.

No Ajax are known for their support of the jewish community that you have to go through to get to the ground

Far left organised pro-hamas thugs riled up by calls on social media to target Jewish people

On the social media platform Telegram, “there is talk of people going on a Jew hunt,” Halsema said. “That is so shocking and so despicable that I still
cannot fathom it.” Dutch Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel
vowed to track down and prosecute all of the perpetrators.

Halsema, Amsterdam’s mayor, described the violence as “an eruption of
antisemitism
that we had hoped never again to see in Amsterdam.”
