We are at war already, they just try to pretend that we are not. It may slow down a bit with trump or it may speed up, who knows

Interesting... I really mean a boots on the ground, all Europe involved kind of war. I worry Putin will escalate and push on.

Which is why Ukraine should be ordered to accept it is part of Mother Russia and is not an independent country and to hand Zelensky over to Moscow to be tried for High Treason.

He doesn't have the resources or supply lines to meaningfully push into Western Europe, it's taken them years (and massive losses) to gain and hold ground in Ukraine which is right on their doorstep.

Realistically if he goes to war in any meaningful sense with anywhere further west it's not boots on the ground, it's missiles in the air, and then it's all academic as that's not a war, it's game over.

Realistically I think Russia will end up keeping Crimea. Then they'll take time to regroup, years or longer, as has been the pattern for many decades at this point. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

My most optimistic hope for the planet is that the can is repeatedly kicked down the road.

The only problem i see is that Putin wants to make his mark regarding the russian empire and Crimea won't cut it and he isn't getting any younger. I think there are large areas of ukraine that want to be Russian too, it's really not simple

Even without NATO the threat to other surrounding W.European nations of him pushing west makes it an unrealistic prospect, at worst they'd take all of Ukraine and then start eyeballing other former Soviet states to "reclaim", long before even considering further west. But in terms of timescales there you're talking decades.

Plus it's not just like he "gets Ukraine" and that's that, a nice new chunk of land, even with a full annexation you're talking a very extended period of massive civil unrest and (what would be seen technically as) domestic terrorism... Russia would need to maintain a heavy military presence IN Ukraine just to keep Ukraine, it's not just a "capture and move on to the next target".

I think the N.Korea stuff is concerning for other reasons. Namely... you have to put a big ? over what N.Korea gets in return for providing cannon fodder.

Russia is currently providing them with various basic resources (like food & oil) in trade for equipment and ammo. Now seemingly some numbers. My concern is that as the relationship deepens, the more likely it becomes that Russia will start assisting them with their nuclear programme - if not in terms of resources, at least in terms of knowledge & expertise.

That's not openly happening right now but it's early days.

I mean it's difficult to call it mega deals - a lot of it is basic food & fuel supplies because the population is starving. And in terms of the troops... from what I know of NK foreign policy and the reason they tend NOT to send troops abroad, is that they essentially don't want soldiers "seeing the world" and then coming back with tales of other countries having easy access to "luxuries" (i.e. some things we'd consider quite basic like a can of coke or chocolate bar). NK's existence hinges on propaganda and misinformation. They don't want their civilians becoming worldly. Or in short - I think the troops he's sending are effectively "ammo", he likely doesn't expect them back (or want them back).

Biden is a disgrace, he should not be making decisions like that during a period of transition

i think it was a smart move from Biden. The possibility that ukraine may fire into Russia should reduce the chances of russia continuing to attack ukraine's electricity supply
