Not sure, how many different genre's are there? lol, something along the lines of bassline, techno, drum and base, UK Garage, stuff like that. But how do you get into the Djing scene anyway?

It helps to know somebody in the scene, or befriend somebody. lol.
Have you got equpiment at home to practice with? If not then maybe a mate has?
Also talk to DJ's at your local nightclubs either in person or e-mail etc. Ask them questions, or to maybe watch them, let you have a go. You may get many offers rejecting your request (the Arts world is like that) but it's a case of keep trying an trying until you get a breakthrough.
Your best bet is to also decide what kind of stuff you want to play, maybe genre specific (Psy-Trance etc) or if you will focus on club DJing with popular music.
Practice is also a key element, the more you practice the better you will become.
Also listening is a major factor. Listen to music carefully, the beat etc, and learn what will work and what won't when mixing etc. A good way to start with this is again listening to how DJ's merge tracks.
