Yeah, that's a sore point at the moment. ABC decided to make her a lesbian and get her involved with Erica, but no sooner had the storyline started to pick up and suddenly the decision was made to fire Brooke Smith. There's currently a petition going about it, and a few web groups (live journal etc). People are sending stuff to ABC in protest. It all seemed to be rather suspiciously timed around the proposition 8 vote.

Reading up on it, the whole affair does seem a tad odd. I dont understand how they can fire Isiah Washington for homophobic comments then fire Brooke Smith for no apparent reason.

They have released a few official statements denying that it had anything to do with homophobia, but it all stinks of a whitewash, and a lot of the fans are not happy.

Thanks Callum. I've seen these articles though.

Shonda is denying that Izzie is dying, but after the remarks she made about the writers, and her obvious annoyance at her storylines, it does make sense that they'd write her out. Katherine Heigl has stated that she's not going anywhere. The "Denny" storyline is causing a lot of fans to switch off though.
