FIFA was better this year but the become a legend feature on PES was more suited to me.
Apparently Pro are really stepping up with the next game. Probably the best year to get both if anything.

Word of mouth to be completely honest but I'm pretty sure Konami know more than anyone that If the next game doesn't come good then they are screwed. I've been very patient with them these past 2 years!
