I was just watching the news and its about the lockerbie bomber gettin released back to Libya and America aint happy about it.
I'm Scottish and I can remember when Lockerbie happined and I agree it was a real bad thing that happined but why the **** is America slateing Scotland cause we have released him cause he is dying.
I know he was found guilty but in reality that is disputable,at the time I read alot about what happned and me and id say alotta other Scots have never believed the correct person was found guilty,anyways my point is why does America have to get involved? fair enough alotta Americans died during that tragedy but the guy was found guilty by a Scottish jury and has spent his time in a Scottish jail so America have no say in what happins.
Are America now gonna go to war with us over this? I know melowdramatic but just get sick of America trying to get involved in everything,and it always seems to be America's way or no way.
Anyways any1 else got any comments to add!

I don't think he should have the right to die with family and friends around him. He can easily commit suicide now and shorten his suffering now that he is home. He deserves to die slowly and in jail.

I don't think he should be released. The ultimate punishment for his crime would be to stay in jail, his victims had no choice to die with their families.

K fair enough I would agree that he deserves to die in jail and not be released but only if he was GUILTY,but ive never believed he was guilty.
I know he was found guilty but ive always believed he was just a scrapegoat for it,they needed someone to take the blame and Libya used him as there patsy.
What im really geettin at is its upto Scotland what happins and I wish America would keep outta it.

I suppose if I did believe he was guilty I would be against him gettin released but I always thou the evidence was flimsy and that he was innocent.
Either way I just dont like America getting involved.

Not very happy about this. He was the reason for the death of 270 people and should serve his sentence. I don't give two sh×ts about his cancer. He dosen't deserve to die in the comfort of his family and friends. People die from all sorts of reasons in prison and I don't agree with the reason he was excused from this. "President Barack Obama said the Scottish decision to free terminally ill Abdel Baset al-Megrahi on compassionate grounds was a mistake and said he should be under house arrest. Obama warned Libya not to give him a hero's welcome.

Despite the warning, at the military airport in Tripoli where al-Megrahi's plane touched down thousands of youths were on hand to warmly greet him. He left the plane wearing a dark suit and a tie and accompanied by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's son, Saif al-Islam Gadhafi. They immediately sped off in a convoy of all-white vehicles.

At home, al-Megrahi is seen as an innocent scapegoat the West used to turn this African nation into a pariah, and his return is a cause for celebration. There was a festive atmosphere with some wearing T-shirts with al-Megrahi's picture and waving Libyan and miniature blue-and-white Scottish flags. Libyan songs blared in the background.

"I think it's appalling, disgusting and so sickening I can hardly find words to describe it," said Susan Cohen, of Cape May Court House, N.J., whose 20-year-old daughter, Theodora, died in the attack. "This isn't about compassionate release. This is part of give-Gadhafi-what-he-wants-so-we-can-have-the-oil."

But many in Libya view his homecoming as a moral victory for the African country and an end to a long-standing humiliation at the hands of the West. They say Libya was forced to surrender al-Megrahi to end years of crippling sanctions.

Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi lobbied hard for the return of al-Megrahi, an issue which took on an added sense of urgency when al-Megrahi was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. He was recently given only months to live.

The 57-year-old former Libyan intelligence officer served only eight years of his life sentence."

"In all commercial contracts, for oil and gas with Britain, (Megrahi) was always on the negotiating table," Seif al-Islam told Libyan television channel Al Mutawassit.

But a spokesperson for the Foreign Office has insisted: "There is no deal.

"All decisions relating to Megrahi's case have been made exclusively by the Scottish Ministers, The Crown office in Scotland, and the Scottish Judicial Authorities.

"No deal has been made between the UK Government and Libya in relation to Megrahi and any commercial interests in the country."

The Foreign Office has strongly denied claims by Gaddafi's son that Abdelbasset al Megrahi's release was linked to lucrative trade deals with Britain.

The response came as Libya's leader Colonel Gaddafi met the freed Lockerbie bomber and praised the Scottish authorities for their "courage" in releasing him from prison.

Col Gaddafi met Abdel Baset al Megrahi and his family after the convicted terrorist returned to his home country on Thursday, having been released by the Scottish government on compassionate grounds.

The Libyan leader praised his country's "friends" in the Scottish Nationalist Party for the early release of Megrahi, who is suffering from terminal cancer and is said to have less than three months to live.

According to the Libyan official news agency Jana, he said: "I congratulate (the Scottish authorities) on their courage and for having proved their independence despite the unacceptable and unreasonable pressures they faced."

He was speaking after the British and US governments expressed outrage at the "hero's welcome" Megrahi received on returning to Libya.

Meanwhile, Col Gaddafi's son told Libyan TV Megrahi's release was linked to trade deals with Britain.

Seif al Islam claimed Britain's former prime minister Tony Blair raised Megrahi's case each time he visited Libya.

"In all commercial contracts, for oil and gas with Britain, (Megrahi) was always on the negotiating table," Islam told channel Al Mutawassit.

He also described the 57-year-old's liberation a "victory" for all Libyans.

But a spokesperson for the Foreign Office has insisted: "There is no deal.

Theyre understandably angry but I agree with you, they should just shut the **** up sometimes and keep their fat noses out! The way they go throwing their weight around and bombing the **** out of anyone that disagrees with them is part of the reason there are terrorists. Not excusing terrorist behaviour, but if they thought more about what they were doing and were more diplomatic then there wouldnt be half of this ****!
