B*llox I'm afraid. I've done quite a bit of martial arts (oh, dear, I hate having to sound like Marcus!!), and that kick shows he has done martial arts. It is pretty difficult to effect that kick as high and as perfectly (and with the shape of the kick) as he does...

If you watch cage fighting you will see that there are often two sides: stand-up and grappling on the floor. Some fighters are great at 'stand-up' but get beaten (sometimes in seconds) when taken down and grappled.

Marcus has not been tested in the BB house on his karate, so we cannot know for sure, but that kick does suggest some skill.
It does show some skill and technique yes. A fact totally ignored by his detractors.
Just rewatched his video and he says he has done Karate. What did you guys think of his balance after the kick though?
Well he stayed on his feet....
Just wondering. He seems to turn his back to the target too much but maybe that was just because he wanted to face the others. Just wondered if you thought the same.
Mmm. I'm sure he didn't want to really 'target' Sophie. Was just a spur of the moment thing - showing off! In mid-flight he has perfect poise and control, and the kick itself looks the right shape for someone who does martial arts...and he seems to land fairly solid for me. Given his failings at the wrestling last night, I think we can give him an A+ for the kick.
Yeah thats the one forgot her name when I was typing. Certainly does look right in the air and he talks about stunts etc. so he probably has practiced it a lot.

Did you learn flying kicks when you did/do martial arts? I always thought they were a bit clumsy for anything other then show.

Erm... firstly, I wasn't directly having a dig at anyone here when I said "like lots of people who profess to know about martial arts..." I was speaking generally. Just to make that clear!

I have never done any martial arts. The closest I've ever come to it is watching Bruce Lee films, so I don't know a lot about it at all. However... I have a friend who's forgotten more about martial arts than I will ever know and he thinks Marcus is full of sh!t.

To end with a bit of useless information... did you know that Jean-Claude Van Damme is a trained ballet dancer?

Also shows he is quite flexible aswell I think esp. as he never seems to do any warm ups in the house.

Yeh, they are quite often used for show I would say, but if they connect can be devestating. Bruce Lee used them! I think the spin-kicks are often more a 'show' thing, but even these have been used in mixed martial arts for example. I'm not a top expert, like, but the kick is well executed imo. Also, I remember Cantona executing a similarly perfectly poised 'kung-fu' kick on a footbal hooligan who felt the full force of it!

No dig taken.

Perhaps thinks Marcus is full of sh*t because he does talk some sh*t (e.g. 100 men thing etc.), but there's no denying that kick! haha

Yup dance and martial arts are very very closely linked as they rely on good posture, breath control, co-ordination and balance.

My sister and I used to do shotokan karate as kids and she would manage to get double gradings (something quite hard to achieve) based partially I think on her ballet training.

Im not sure how your friend would come to those conclusions as I havnt really seen much to be able to tell but I think the fact he doesnt practice daily does say something.

Ack, what am I saying! It is Marcus he doesnt have to practice! Probably does push ups with his eyebrows when nobody is looking.

Edit: And hay we guys always like to look as if we know how to be tough even if women beat us by being better at technique.

I like Marcus,I want him to win.
But that leap is enhanced by the fact he to a long run and was already higher than other housemates due to the decking.
He never got much height
