HECTOR HOUSE
Bullying Pete: I've gone too far with Jodie
By Cameron Robertson And Fiona Cummins, Showbiz Reporter

13 January 2006

PETE Burns admitted he may have gone too far in his attacks on Jodie Marsh.

Big Brother viewers saw the former Dead or Alive singer slam the model over her refusal to take constructive criticism.

But he admitted: "It's like a smell in the air but all of us united can just ignore it.

"It may be being really cruel to her, though. But if we all turned hostile on her now, she could just walk and say, 'I was driven from the Big Brother house by 50-year-olds'. Everyone would feel sorry for her, sobbing on the top of the steps as she fled the building in two belts."

Since her confrontation with the entire group on Tuesday night Jodie has barely spoken.

Pete said he believes she cannot help but cause arguments and has an "addiction to friction". He told Michael Barrymore: "It's a lesson I'll take away from here - addiction to friction. At times I've had it.

"I'm agitated with certain people in my life, I know what they're doing wrong and I'll go down and start picking on them. It's ridiculous because you're going to isolate yourself."

But yesterday he was still mocking her. Doing an exaggerated imitation he said: "Everybody hates me, it's the anniversary of Mother Teresa's death. You know a bird died somewhere in the Carpathian mountains."

Channel 4 said 18 viewers complained that Jodie had been bullied but 18 more complained about her behaviour.

Bookies slashed the odds on Pete being booted out tonight from 16-1 to 6-1. Jodie was still favourite to go but improved slightly from 2-7 to 4-11.

Darren Haines, of bookies Paddy Power, said: "There's a bit of sympathy for Jodie. Pete's onslaught did not go down well.

HOUSE ABOUT THAT THEN?
Sir Jimmy joins celebs
By James Fielding

13 January 2006

KING of Bling Sir Jimmy Savile will enter Celebrity Big Brother this weekend - and thrill housemates with his "special thing".

The veteran DJ and presenter will arrive in the house on Saturday.

But he'll leave other contestants green with envy by staying the night at a swanky hotel nearby.

After being pampered, he will then return on Sunday for the day before saying his goodbyes to Michael Barrymore and co in the evening.

Sir Jimmy, who owns a house in Glencoe, said he had been watching the Channel Four reality TV show as "homework".

And the jewellery-clad star said he would "comfort" under fire Jodie Marsh if she was still left in.

Speaking to Ugly Phil on Kerrang Radio's breakfast show this morning, he said: "I watch the show avidly.

"My deal is that I, God willing, will go in on Saturday and have a good time.

"I will do my special thing because I'm doing my special thing for the housemates, they don't know that yet.

"Then I come out in the evening and go to a hotel next door and live off the fat of the land and the next day, God willing, I will go back and spend a day with them."

He also offered support to his old pal Barrymore, who viewers have seen break down in tears after arguments with Jodie and Chantelle.

Sir Jimmy said: "I have known him for quite some time and he's basically a very, very pleasant guy.

"But he got into choppy water, as we know, and sometimes choppy water can destroy people's confidence.

"He's spent his life making people laugh and al l of a sudden he gets into choppy water and he got crucified by all sorts of people.

"He's always on tenterhooks in the house because he doesn't know if anyone's going to have a go at him.

"But I can tell you, he's quite a smashing fellah."

Minister starts Galloway petition

13 January 2006

A petition accusing MP George Galloway of egotism for entering the Celebrity Big Brother house is being launched by a Cabinet minister.

Chief whip Hilary Armstrong will start the petition in Mr Galloway's Bethnal Green and Bow constituency.

It says the Respect MP has shown a "shameful lack of respect" for his constituents by going on the show.

But Mr Galloway says it is good for politics and his party says his office is working as usual.

'Lounging about'

The new petition urges Mr Galloway to "represent and respect his constituents, not further his own ego, as he is by remaining totally out of touch in the Big Brother house".

Ms Armstrong said: "This week he missed a vote in the House of Commons on Crossrail and next week, he could miss the chance to speak on the Equality Bill and the Work and Families Bill.

"Does he honestly think that his constituents would prefer to see him lounging about in the Big Brother house rather than debating issues as serious as equality?"

Labour MP Ed Balls also criticised Mr Galloway on BBC Question Time saying he was patronising young people if he was seriously trying to engage them in politics by appearing on the show.

Reaching out?

Mr Galloway's spokesman said earlier this week that the constituency office was open as normal.

"It is his hope that Big Brother would provide the kind of platform that the media does not normally provide for him," he said.

"He is coming across as a human being, while the press have tried to demonise him in the past."

But the party is sending a letter of complaint to Channel 4 claiming his conversations with other housemates about the Iraq war and other political issues have not been shown.

Channel 4 has denied censoring Mr Galloway and said highlights were selected on editorial grounds.

'Bullying'

Mr Galloway has been nominated for eviction from the reality television show along with glamour model Jodie Marsh and transvestite Pete Burns.

Miss Marsh's parents have said their daughter is suffering the kind of bullying she endured at school.

Her mother told GMTV: "This is exactly what happened then.

"There was one strong person at school - exactly like George Galloway - that turned everyone against her."

Earlier this week, Mr Galloway said he had expected there to be more debate, and to be asked questions such as what Tony Blair was like or about the Iraq war.

But, Mr Galloway, told actress Rula Lenska: "Someone of my age and class is not used to young women talking as they do in here, with no orifice left unopened."

He complained about Miss Marsh's "extraordinary stories which involve every orifice and fluid known to man", adding that he hoped his daughter never spoke like that.

Chantelle to be REAL star
By MARIE AHSUN
Showbiz Reporter

13 January 2006

BIG Brother fake celebrity Chantelle Houghton is set become a REAL chart topper with a track written by a famous songwriter.

I Want It Right Now was originally penned for pop princess Kylie Minogue.

But music companies are now queueing up to record it with 22-year-old Chantelle — who sang it out of tune for her housemates as she tried to convince them that she was a celebrity.

And the blonde model — who freely admits she cannot sing — may even carve out a pop career when she leaves the house.

The song was chosen by BB bosses to back up the Essex girl’s claims that she was part of an all-girl band called Kandyfloss.

It was written by top songwriter and former Go West star Colin Campsie who has penned hits for The Spice Girls, Natalie Imbruglia and his wife — Beverley Craven.

The full lyrics are printed below for the first time.

BB bosses asked head of music publishers Dalmatian Songs Bill Stonebridge to submit ten tracks last year.

But they kept him in the dark about why they wanted them.

He said: “The song is actually called I Want It All and was written with Kylie in mind. But I guess they changed the title to suit Chantelle’s quest to be a celebrity.

“We weren’t sure what had happened to the song until we saw the Essex housemate perform it.”

He added: “There’s been no shortage of interest — we’ve had numerous phonecalls from big record companies about releasing it.

“Some of them are offering silly money. We will definitely chat with her when she comes out.”

ast night a Big Brother spokesman said: “We’d certainly wish her luck if she released the single.”

Paris Hilton lookalike Chantelle had to convince the housemates she was a singer in non-existent pop group Kandyfloss — or be evicted.

Her big test came when Big Brother told them they had to line up in order of fame.

But she managed to fool the others and, incredibly, came NINTH out of 11.

Fame 'tempts pupils from school'

13 January 2006

One in 10 young people would drop out of education for a shot at TV fame, a survey suggests.

And 16% believe they will actually become famous, according to the Learning and Skills Council survey of 777 16-19 year olds in England.

But many young people also said they would prefer to emulate well-known figures such as Prime Minister Tony Blair and cricketer Andrew Flintoff.

The LSC says education should be seen as the most reliable route to success.

'I would drop out'

Many young people do not understand that the odds of being selected for a reality TV show such as Big Brother - and continuing to be famous afterwards - are very slim, the LSC says.

Almost one in ten said they thought celebrity was a great way to earn money without skills or qualifications.

Ruth Bullen, LSC spokeswoman, said research showed that young people without five good GCSEs or the equivalent were more likely to earn low pay in later life.

"If making money is the reason a young person wants to become famous, then by staying on in education or training they can significantly increase their future earning power by gaining these essential qualifications," she said.

More than half of teenagers who said they wanted to become famous cited money and success as the principal reason.

James Pollock, 15, from Unity City Academy Middlesbrough, said: "Although I plan to make something with my life by working hard and going to college, an offer like Big Brother would be too tempting to resist.

"It's the fastest route to fame, and I'd drop out of school or college to have that chance."

Forgotten

Previous research it had undertaken suggested that pupils who stay on at school after their GCSEs could earn up to Ł4,000 more per year than those without good GCSEs - adding up to Ł185,000 over their careers.

It says students who gain A-levels or other advanced qualifications can expect to earn an average yearly salary of Ł20,692.

But those who leave school without obtaining five GCSE passes at grades A*-C or the equivalent can expect an average salary of Ł16,739.

And it is urging those young people who are banking on a moment of fame to draw in the cash to remember those former Big Brother contestants who have long since been forgotten.

Jodie 'certain to go'

13 January 2006

Jodie Marsh is preparing to leave the Big Brother house tonight, with bookies saying the result is over bar the counting

The model has spent a miserable last few days in the house, with even her fellow competitors starting to feel remorseful about the bullying she complains she has been subjected to.

Her only friend, fake celebrity Chantelle Houghton, kept her distance yesterday after the other housemates warned her to stay away from the glamour girl.

But they met up outside the Diary Room for a tearful heart to heart.

"They said you were playing a game. They think I've taken their advice, but I won't believe anything they say about you now," Houghton sobbed.

Marsh told her: "If and when I go, please believe that I'll be there for you on the outside. First thing, we're going out for a drink in Essex."

Within minutes of getting up yesterday morning, Marsh, 27, had laid into her other housemates.

"I get victimised and bullied just for making friends with someone," she complained to Rula Lenska. "What have I done to deserve this?

"Chantelle and I feel we can't even be friends any more. I'm avoiding her now, for her sake. I don't need to prove anything to you lot.

"The proof will be when we get out of here. Me and her will be friends forever."

Marsh's parents said their daughter was facing the same bullying ordeal she endured in school.

"This is exactly what happened then," her mother told GMTV yesterday. "There was one strong person at school - exactly like George Galloway - that turned everyone against her.

"I don't know how much longer she will be able to cope with that."

Mrs Marsh added: "We had no idea just how bad it would be and we don't think she had any idea what she was going into.

"She has seen it before, but I don't think she realised how much people would be going up against her... basically she's been ostracised."

Singer Pete Burns admitted he felt a twinge of guilt over the group's treatment of Marsh.

"It may be being really cruel to her," Burns admitted to Michael Barrymore.

"But if we all turned hostile on her now she could walk out and say, 'I was driven from the Big Brother house by 50-year-olds'. Everyone would feel sorry for her... sobbing on the top of the steps as she fled the building in two belts."

Newspapers reported that veteran DJ Sir Jimmy Savile would make a surprise visit to the house tomorrow and return on Sunday to say his goodbyes.

Marsh is odds-on favourite to be evicted tonight.

The other housemates facing eviction are Burns and George Galloway.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "It looks all over bar the counting.

At this stage we usually offer odds on what contestants will do once they leave the house, but we have been unable to think of any creditable career for Jodie other than continuing as a glamour model."

Catty Galloway 'made me cringe'

13 January 2006

The Government Chief Whip has launched a petition calling on Celebrity Big Brother contestant George Galloway to get back to work saying his latest TV antics had made her "cringe".

n a cheap publicity stunt, Hilary Armstrong, the Labour MP for North-West Durham, began the petition urging Mr Galloway to "respect his constituents, not his ego" in his Bethnal Green and Bow constituency in East London.

Yesterday the Respect MP was pretending to be a cat, purring and licking imaginary milk from the hands of actress Rula Lenska as he missed the vote in the Commons on the Crossrail project which affects his voters.

Ms Armstrong said: "It made me cringe. "I'm absolutely bemused that he decided to do something where he is uncontactable by the people he represents or works for.

"Something serious could happen here today and no-one can contact him, he could not say or do anything - and that to me seems a bit strange for someone who is, and has wanted to be, a publicly-elected official.

"No-one can talk to him, they can watch him and this is not a very edifying experience but they, his constituents, cannot see him working for them, listening to them and representing them in parliament. They are beginning to ask where is he?"

She launch the petition this morning on a visit to the east London constituency.

The document, which will be presented to Mr Galloway, read: "We believe this egotistical action shows a shameful lack of respect for the people of this constituency.

"We call on him to represent and respect his constituents, not further his own ego, as he is by remaining totally out of touch in the Big Brother house."

Overturned Labour

Mr Galloway, 51, won the seat overturning a Labour majority in a bitter election battle last year on an anti-war ticket. He believes that being on the show may help him to reach a wider audience.

Mr Galloway's spokesman said earlier this week that the constituency office was open as normal.

John Biggs, a Labour London Assembly member, has been holding an alternative surgery for residents in Mr Galloway's absence. He said: "I think there is a real need for politicians to engage with people but I do not think that being on Big Brother or pretending to be a cat is the best way to achieve it.

"We have had a steady flow of people come to it not to complain about George but because they have issues they want addressed.

"Certainly around the streets of Tower Hamlets people are p**** off about his failure to represent them."

Tonight Mr Galloway is up for eviction alongside glamour model Jodie Marsh and singer Pete Burns.

SHARKS CONSIDER RODMAN

13 January 2006

NBA legend Dennis Rodman could make surprise one-off appearance in British basketball with Sheffield Sharks.

The Sharks are considering signing Rodman, currently starring in TV show Celebrity Big Brother, for one game after being approached by his agent.

The controversial former Chicago Bulls star would command a fee of around Ł22,500 but the Sharks feel the publicity may make it worth it.

Sharks general manager Sarah Backovic told the club's official website, www.westfieldsharks.com: "Dennis' agent wants 40,000 (US) dollars for one match, but obviously the profile he would bring to sport and the club would be priceless.

"We are looking at the options available to us and speaking with our coaching staff to see if it is a viable proposition."

Rodman, 44, who played for Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks as well as the Bulls, won five NBA Championships in a glittering career but is notorious for his brushes with the law.

Let's throw out the trash

13 January 2006

A Mail online poll has revealed 42 per cent of you want Jodie Marsh evicted first from the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Here, our showbiz writer Kate Hampson looks at why the foul-mouthed glamour model must go.

he vowed to enter the house so people could see the real Jodie Marsh. And just moments into the series, we did.

She got drunk, swore constantly, moaned about everything and pulled her knickers down to give us a full frontal flash.

Right Jodie, now we'd like to see the back of you.

A Mail online poll, which asked who should be evicted first, has revealed 42 per cent of you want Jodie out.

A further 35 per cent want blathering MP George Galloway to leave and 23 per cent were tired of watching scary-looking transvestite Pete Burns.

Based on your reader comments, the overwhelming feeling amongst you is that this utterly ludicrous bunch of wannabes saddens us all.

Jodie, for instance, is a worrying example of the new breed of celebrity who will go to any length to get themselves on television. It is horrifying to think that all it takes these days is no charm, no talent and a bucket of make up and plastic surgery to find fame.

In turn, their vanities and insecurities are beamed into our living rooms.

Jodie's frailties being the best example. She has been wailing that the British public have branded her a slapper. Newsflash Jodie - the only reason we know who you are is because you prance around at public events with nothing on.

Once Jodie is gone though, we will still face a tough decision - choosing from the bullies and egomaniacs in the house to crown the Village Idiot.

Isabella defends Jodie

13 January 2006

LADY Isabella Hervey has stuck up for Big Brother contestant Jodie Marsh.

The Celebrity Love Island star got to know the glamour model when they were both contestants on the Channel 4 show The Games.

Lady Isabella said some of the other housemates were being "vile" to Marsh, 27, who is up for eviction tonight.

The 23-year-old said: "They are being really unfair to her. Although she hasn’t always said or done the best things, they’ve all ganged up on her now.

"There are some grown-up men in there and they are being vile to her."

She added: "I think the housemates are scary. Very scary.

"They all pick on each other and are very mean to each other. I’d be very scared to be in that house."

Bookies have predicted that Marsh is a certainty for eviction tonight.

Pete Burns and George Galloway are also up for the chop.

Traci set birthday task

13 January 2006

AS today is Baywatch babe Traci's birthday, Big Brother will later provide all the housemates with a party.
Unfortunately it is also Friday the 13th. So to guarantee the party, Traci must complete an obstacle course set in a swamp.

Big Brother has set out the obstacle course in the garden, with five skulls hidden in the swamp.

Well-manicured Traci must climb into the swamp, retrieve a skull, slide underneath the scramble net and drop the skull into the Skull Box, one at a time.

The sexy housemate will have just four minutes to collect all five skulls - and the more she collects, the better the party.

But BB has issued a strict set of rules (shown below) that state tonight's party will be cancelled if the instructions aren't followed to the letter!

Rules

Only Traci must take part in the task.
The other HMs must sit on the benches to observe Traci while she completes the obstacle course.
The observing HMs may cheer Traci on if they wish to.
Traci must begin at the Start Point. After each go she must run back to the Start Point to attempt the course again.
Traci MUST climb into the swamp using the steps and exit the swamp using the steps the other side. Traci is not permitted to lean in from the sides of the swamp to collect a skull.
Traci must collect ONE skull only during each run of the course.
Traci must go UNDERNEATH the scramble net. If she doesn't, her go won't count.
Traci will be provided with a swimming costume and protective clothing that must be worn for the task. Traci will also be given a dressing gown. This may only be worn before and after the task.
Housemates must not tamper with any of the task equipment.
Big Brother will sound a klaxon to start the task. A second klaxon will sound when the 4 minutes is up.
Big Brother viewers evict Marsh

13 January 2006

Glamour model Jodie Marsh has become the first star to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Marsh, MP George Galloway and singer Pete Burns were up for eviction by public vote on the Channel 4 show.

After being turfed out of the house, the 27-year-old said the show had turned into a game of "pick on Jodie".

Marsh's parents earlier accused the other housemates of bullying their daughter, who spent much of her time in the house crying.

She is a supporter of anti-bullying charity Beatbullying after talking about her time at the hands of bullies while she was at school.

A tearful Marsh said after her eviction that the other housemates upset her by constantly telling her to leave the country.

When asked if she had learned anything about herself, she replied: "That I don't get on with people who pretend they aren't transvestites when they really are".

Fellow contestant Burns earlier raised concerns that he and the others may be viewed by the audience as cruel for the way they have treated her.

Celebrity Big Brother has attracted average ratings of 4.3 million this series, making it one of Channel 4's most popular programmes.
