Default I love the American Idol-esque touches this year.

I think American Idol is pretty much superior to X Factor in every way, it's less ridiculous and staged, no sob stories and the acts are more diverse (as are the winners). I love how X Factor are adapting little touches of AI though like the fact there are no sob stories and the VT's are all centred around one topic and not just a 'vote for me I've had a bad life blah blah blah' attack.

I also like the fact they're doing a rock week next week as it'll be different as X Factor have never done it before (although I'm dreading what the judges opinion of Rock as they thought Eoghan's performance 'Year 3000' was rocky...*shivers*.

Anyway my point is keep copying American Idol, it's working. *awaits Patrick's 'AMERICA IS CRAP RAWRAWRRAWR' post*

I like the group songs. But ITV should release the performances on iTunes like AI does would get ITV/Cowell/producers more money!

American Idol is not superior in every way! Thats BS. I actually cant stand when they try to copy it. And I am a big AI fan.
I dont like the fact that the results are the next day. I dont mind the group song, since they have to fill one hour result show now. BUt Xfactor was fine just the way it was.

ANd BTW AI had just as many sob stories as Xfactor. They both decided to cut down on it, so its not copying.

I think it was more intense when the results were on the same night

Exactly. I much prefer the way it was. Plus they leave the voting lines open until tomorrow, which will not reflect the performances. Rather gives a chance to those with big fanbases to vote like crazy no matter how bad they sang.
American Idol gives the results the next day, but the lines are only open for 2 hours after the show, that way it really reflects the performances, which is fresh in the voters minds.
The next day, they just vote for their favorite no matter what.

I think it's better the voting isn't on the same night. Alot of people go out on a Saturday so they can catch it the next day THEN vote.

I didn't think I'd like it but I do like the results show, like LJ said it gives more people a chance to vote and such and I think it'll deal with the 'first' curse. I prefer AI to be fair, I find it less OTT and annoying. I've only watched it since Jordin's year but I can't really remember any sob stories in it.

except it isn't shown on a Sunday anymore so its kind of flawed. I don't think that many will watch online

The only thing I prefer about AI is that the contestants are far more talented musically. They always play instruments in their performances, whereas in TXF its only ever been done once or twice.

I didn't mean what you said was flawed, I mean the scheduling is- ratings are up by about 2m for the Sunday, so more people might be voting based on who their favourite is rather than the performance (because they've not had the chance to see it). Some of the extra few who watch Sundays will record it, some watch online, but I'd say most won't bother.
