It's not that I don't like Rihanna (but I'm not a big fan either) but I think something is wrong with her, something just doesn't match. There is always something I find awful or embarrassing about the girl, not necessarily the song tho (Russian Roulette is rather good).
Now, the video is kinda amateur, nothing new about it, she hasn't improved a lot to be honest. Yes, she has her own style but music wise, she's stuck in the mall.

Vocally wise, no. I see a makeover for sure (drastic hair, tatoos...) but as far as music is concerned, nothing to me screams awesome nor improvement.
Fair enough, she has potential, but compared to Lady Gaga who is rather new on the market but managed to improve her standards, Rihanna hasn't made any efforts.

If you listen to the lyrics though, from the start of her career with 'Ponda Replay" and 'S.O.S" etc, she has really made a change.
Since ythe incident with Chris Brown, she's clearly writing about things now in a deep way.
Also, no other artist out there is mixing grit and rock with R N' B.
Not Beyonce. Certainly not gaga. No one in the mainstream r n' b world.
