I really had no idea Lady GaGa could sing; that video Darenn posted took me by surprise. Lady GaGa is a gimmick that'll be long forgotten if she doesn't reinvent herself every so often, because it'll get stale.
That's what I think too.
Like Madonna, she'll have to reinvent herself every time to stay current.

I do think that Gaga has a good voice. To say that she has a wide range is ludachris. people like Mariah and Beyonce have a wide range.
She stays in the 2-3 octave range most of the time. Which is fine.

I also think she is really good at creating instant hit songs.
She knows what will go down well in the pop culture zetgeist that has become mainstream music and what will sell.
Gary, I would argue though that her more "Serious" songs like 'Speechless", "Again, Again" however prove that lyricaly she is not strong at all.
People in the mainstream like Ne-Yo and Keri Hilson are better lyricists really, if you listen closely.
But let's be honest, none come lose to those musicians workin outside of the mainstream like the Artic Monkey's, Rufus Wainright, Tori Amos, or countless others.

But where Gaga excels over most of her counterparts today in the mainstream is her ability to create the sense of intrigue/ fascination in her and her work.
She is a fantastic business lady.
Her outragous, houte couture outfits.
Her sometimes crazy antic's on shows such as her appearance on Jonathan Ross.
Her "Haus of Gaga/La maison de Gaga".
Her fascination with Andy Warhol and his ideals on the modern quest for fame.
Her creative above-the-norm videos like "Papparazzi" and "Bad Romance".
These are all truly, I believe, just publicity devices to fuel the crazy, kookoo image of Gaga. And thus to create public interest in her.
"What will she do next?" etc.
But, this could all very well be argued against by a Gaga fan/representative as Gaga just being "Artisic" too and everything she does comming under the banner of "Art".
SO smart!

The best example of this I can find is the issue of whether or not Gaga could possible be a hermaphrodite or not.
She has Never publicly come out to say that she is or is not.
This is such a smart move I think.
Whatever it does, it gets people talking about her.
"Is she a man? I herad she was" and all that.
And as they say, any publicity is good publicity.

I like Gaga.
I like her catchy music, despite it's obvious downfalls.
I do not like the fact that she is an obvious fame *****.
But I respect her for being a very smart business lady and playing the media and mainstream pop-culture like she does her piano.

I also believe that to say that she is a flash in the pan is a bit premature.
As I said before, she's smarter then most mainstream artists out there.
She can certainly manage I long lasting career I think if she contines to be as smart about managing her public image and how to create public interest in her and her music.
