He actually said that if someone held a gun to his daughters head and was going to shoot her unless she renounced Jesus that he would tell her to take the bullet and he'd see her in heaven.

It's because he believes that the eternal life that comes after our short human lives is more important. Personally I just think he is nuts.

As someone else said here - he seems to have replaced one (or 2) addictions with the new one called god.............poor guy seems very damaged/unstable
