and Mariah's meltdown wasn't due to Glitter flopping really :/ As far as I can recall, she was having a lot of trouble with her label and her dad got ill. She doesn't strike me as the a person so shallow to have a meltdown if a record flops.
I read an interview with her about her breakdown and she said the main reason was because of her record and movie being poorly received, as she was so un-used to flopping, and exhaustian from promoting a movie and an album constantly.
